Instead, it’s becoming quickly known as a lemon. Should this be a problem with a newer SUV? Absolutely not! At this point, the Trax is able to “stand out,” just as Chevy suggests, but not for the right reasons. The automaker claims that this problem relates to an exhaust cam reluctor that is not in position. In fact, Service Bulletin #PIP5598B says that there have been problems with a no start or extended cranking condition. At first it was a perfect compact SUV for us but after this problem we are questioning its reliability.”Īgain, Chevrolet is talking about the engine issues. Tried putting in reverse but the car shook violently. One Edmunds user states, “We have leased this car for eight months and randomly, after stopping at a red light, it would not move. Engine ProblemsĪ final issue seems to be coming from the engine, which is considered the most valuable component of all. In the meantime, getting in the Trax might not be something people want to do if they hope to get out. Over the past few years, the automakers have become quite sensitive to air bag complaints, so it’s something they are probably hoping will just go away. Currently, there are no communications from the automaker about how to fix this problem. However, the biggest difference is that Chevrolet doesn’t want to talk about this system malfunctioning. In fact, no major systems should malfunction within the first 1,000 miles of an SUV. While this owner got a little farther than the first, it wasn’t by much. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed that the sensor was installed to the manufacturer’s specifications. The vehicle was taken to to be diagnosed. The contact stated that the passenger’s occupant detection system failed to detect a passenger seated in the front passenger’s seat. But, when these systems don’t work as intended, everyone is put in danger.Īnother NHTSA complaint states, “The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Trax. Problems with the Air BagsĪir bags are added to vehicles to ensure occupant safety. However, the automaker goes on to call some of these “acceptable” and “considered normal operations.” Tell that to the operator that only made it a few miles off the dealership lot before struggling to move the SUV at all. In fact, Service Bulletin #990420002K discusses how the driveline can make a clunking noise. Sadly, Chevy is doing nothing to work on these powertrain issues. The failure mileage was approximately 13.” Manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer. The technician was unable to deduce the cause of the failure. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission slipped and inadvertently changed gears while the vehicle shuddered. One NHTSA complaint states, “The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Trax. The main component of this system is the transmission, which seems to be causing trouble with the Trax. At the same time, we can see how that might have taken sales away from the Trailblazer. The powertrain consists of every part that transfers energy from the engine to the wheels. It seems like it would’ve been cheaper to sell the Trax with the 1.3 and just never created the 1.2. Simplifying production is something lots of companies spend countless millions on. Chevy told us that both features would drive up the cost of the Trax which is something that it didn’t want but at least when it comes to the engine we’re not totally sure that those numbers add up. In fact, that’s also why it won’t offer the Trax with the more powerful 1.3-liter engine found in the Trailblazer. It didn’t want to cannibalize sales of the Trailblazer. Where some rivals feature droning engines or CVTs, the Trax cuts out any chance of that or of intrusive road noise with its ANC. It’s excellent and might be one of the best dark horse tech features on the Trax. How well does the Active Noise Cancellation feature work? There’s even an available parcel shelf that hides cargo and adds another place to set things during a trip. Visibility is good too and since the Trax is considerably bigger than the outgoing model, cargo space is good too. I really was surprised given that I’m 6’6 and I fit without any sort of weird contortions.
